They make staying hydrated easy. Think beyond the classic lemon slice in water. You can easily infuse water with a number of different types of fruit, vegetables, herbs and spices – the possibilities are endless!

Infused waters can upgrade the flavor of water without any nutritional drawbacks (like extra calories or sugar). You just let fruit and herbs sit in water for a few hours and voila!

Although fresh juice provides hydration and a lot of vitamins, it is usually a one-time drink whereas by making a large pitcher of infused water, you can drink it all day long. Plus you have the benefit that it is low in calories. One glass of fresh orange juice has 111 calories, versus practically no calories for infused water.

Infused water is also nourishing as it absorbs some of the nutritional content from the added fruit. Some nutritionists estimate that you can get as much as 20% of the vitamin content from infused water when compared to freshly squeezed fruit juice – all without the extra calories or fructose. Plus you benefit from an antioxidant boost!

You can start drinking it right away, but you might not notice the flavors until it infuses for a few hours. The longer it sits, obviously the better and stronger the flavor will be.

For infused water, there really isn’t an exact recipe, and there are no right or wrong amounts; it’s all based on your personal taste and what you have on hand.
