DThe holidays are over, it’s time to give your body a healthy jump-start with a vitamin-rich citrus kaki turmeric smoothie!

This isn’t your regular kind of fruit smoothie — it boasts more than just a vitamin C kick. Most of all, it contains the superfood power of turmeric. Turmeric, with its distinctive flavor and warm yellow-orange color packs a considerable medicinal punch. And if that’s not enough, then there are blood oranges, pink grapefruit, lemon and kaki, all of which are vitamin rich and packed with immune-boosting antioxidants — enough to help ward off any stubborn cold this winter.

A citrus kaki turmeric smoothie with health boosting benefits

Fruit containing immune-boosting antioxidants and vitamins helps you maintain a healthy immune system while enjoying delicious plant-powered ingredients. Let’s take a look at what makes this citrus kaki turmeric smoothie so healthy.

Orangen, Blutorangen, Grapefruit, Zitrusfrüchte

Turmeric

Finger-staining and brightly colored, turmeric is as an all around superfood with countless health benefits, including having anti-tumour, antibacterial, and antiviral agents. It’s an antioxidant with anti-inflammatory properties that help relieve bloating, as well as being a free radical-fighter, which helps flush out carcinogens and boost the liver detoxification process. It even lowers cholesterol. Powerful stuff.

Kurkuma Wurzeln, Turmeric

Lemons

As a long time believer in the power of lemon juice, lemons are part of my daily diet. If you haven’t read my post on the benefits of drinking lemon water, you should. Lemon water is a powerful detox drink; it helps cleanse and alkalise the body, and they are a natural diuretic helping the body to flush fluids regularly.

Kaki fruit

Sweet, seedless, and reminiscent of mangos and peaches, kaki fruit contains nutrients like vitamin A, vitamin C, and vitamin K. They are high in fiber and are known for their antioxidant properties which contain powerful compounds that prevent inflammation and infection. A tasty winter fruit that is gaining popularity.

Pomegranate

Here’s a fruit with sweet and tart deliciousness that pack serious health benefits. Pomegranate juice has been said to contain more antioxidants than red wine, grape juice, cranberry juice, green tea or acai juice. Pretty impressive stuff. It’s also an antioxidant-rich superfood that has many beauty and health benefits; from inflammation relief, improving bacterial infections, heart health, boosting collagen and more.

Citrus Kaki Turmeric Smoothie with Pomegranate

Citrus kaki turmeric smoothie as a perfect pre-workout drink

Because fruit smoothies contain a decent amount of natural sugar, they are best consumed before a workout. So that all the sugar is absorbed and converted into energy by the body during the exercise routine. The electrolyte content of kaki fruit and all the juiced fruit are another factor that aid in your total workout. This smoothie will partially replenish the lost fluid and electrolyte that are lost in the form of sweat.

  • 2 kaki, peeled and quartered
  • 4 cm piece turmeric, peeled

Method

  2. Drink and feel awesome!

Notes

  • Want to make your fruit smoothie go further? Try adding a drizzle of omega-3-6-9, avocado oil or melted coconut oil to the mix to aid in the absorption of fat soluble vitamins. Fatty acids are also important for keeping your brain functioning properly and your heart healthy.
  • I use my lemon squeezer to juice the pomegranate. This is done by cutting the pomegranate in half and then into quarters, then placing a quarter into the lemon squeezer and pressing the juice into a bowl. Another method that works well is to seed the pomegranate, add the seeds to a blender and pulse to mix, then strain the mixture into a bowl through a fine-mesh strainer. Then use a spatula to press every last drop out. I think my method is quicker and easier. 😉
